J.C. Battle J.C. Battle, 74, of Blakely died Nov. 22, 2006, in Blakely. Mr. Battle was born Dec. 9, 1931, to the late Irma Cook. At age three, he was adopted by John and Mae Lou Lee. He worked as a long shoreman in the New Jersey area for 37 years and returned to Blakely in 1994. He was a member of Rosinvick Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the trustee board, as treasurer and was active in many departments. Mr. Battle was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Lee and Lemuel Battle. Surviors include his wife, Bettle Battle; three sons, Ralph Battle and wife Veronica, Richard Battle and Ronald Battle, all of New Jersey; three daughters, Cisele Pamela Battle, Janice Lindsey, and Michelle Phillips and husband Darwin, all of New Jersey; seven sisters-inlaw, Orrie B. Lee, Willie B. Kelley, Ida White, Alice Taylor, Rosa Mae Hargett, Velma Floyd and Linda Lane; three brothers-inlaw, Charlie Madison Jr., Johnny Madison Sr. and William Monroe Madison; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Rosinvick Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Perez Blackmon, Steve Blackmon, Tony Madison, Herbert Lee, Sammy Harris and David Filmore.
