Farmers can apply now for EQIP and WHIP

James E. Tillman Sr., state conservationist for the USDA National Resources Conservation Service in Georgia, announced that farmers should complete their applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives program by Dec. 1 to be considered for fiscal year 2007 funding.

Applications for Wildlife Habitat Incentives program should be completed by Dec. 22. The NRCS administers both EQIP and WHIP.

"All applications received by Dec. 1 and Dec. 22, respectively, will be considered for funding," said Tillman. To receive "These cost-sharing programs assistance from the NRCS, farmers must apply for EQIP at their local USDA Service Center. Prior year EQIP applications must be resubmitted with updated signatures to be considered for funding in 2007.

"I encourage all who may be interested in this area to get their applications in quickly," said Steve Cleland, local district conservationist.
