Mulch volcanoes too much of a good thing in landscape

     In many manicured landscapes, plants often seem to grow out of little mulch volcanoes. But piling mulch one to three feet deep around trees is way too much of a good thing, experts say.

     James E. Tillman Sr., state conservationist for the USDA National Resources Conservation Service in Georgia, announced that farmers should complete their applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives program by Dec. 1 to be considered for fiscal year 2007 funding.
