Friday night emotions
Billy Fleming

"I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord. And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord..." the lyrics of Phil Collins' song kind of go down hill after that, but the sound of the song can stir emotions.

It still does when I think of the Friday nights I would hear it blaring from a football dressing room before my sons and their teammates would take to the field.

The lyrics keep popping up in my mind, have been for a while now. I think I know what's causing it. Just as the emotions would swell in those football players, in anticipation of the challenge they were about to face, I feel the same thing for our community.

Those players knew their destiny would depend on each of them giving 110% and doing whatever it took to get the job done on that given Friday night.

Every player on that team had a job to do, and he had to know what everyone else on the field was doing at any given time. It was called team work. And I'm proud to say they did it to near perfection.

If you can feel it in the air, you too, know that our community is sitting in the dressing room pondering what is about to unfold in front of them.

The music needs to be turned up. Emotions need to swell. Everyone needs to know their job and be willing to give 100%. Everybody has got to know what the other players are doing, or just like on Friday nights, you come up short.

Those football players, at their young age, knew that they would only get one chance to do it right or all their hard work would lead to memories even time has a hard time healing. It's time to take to the field!
