EPD: "Power plant permits ready to go"

The Georgia EPD is meeting this week to set up the logistics for the public meetings for the Longleaf power plant draft permits.

According to assistant EPD director Jim Ussery all the draft permits are "ready to go" except for a solid waste permit. "However, we plan to move ahead and expect to make an announcement before the first week in August," Ussery stated last week.

The draft permits had been completed last month, however, EPD officials were waiting for the completion of the Georgia Pacific/Long-leaf agreement which provides for the power plant's use of the GP discharge water.

That agreement is now in EPD's hands and they are proceeding with the permitting process. The News hopes to publish the meeting notice next week.
